Mr. Bob Minty is shown above wearing his Grandfather’s actual whaling outfit, boots and all. I was fortunate enough to get an interview with Mr. Minty (will be posted shortly). He is so very generous with the mounds of interesting information he has regarding the history of whaling and of California.

The Ocean Institute‘s Tall Ships Festival started in 1984. It is the Ocean Institute’s premier annual event. This festival celebrates California’s maritime history and connection to the Pacific Ocean. The brig Pilgrim, and the other tall ships of her era, represent an important chapter in United States history.
